I feel like I'd be more of a 'medium' type Witch. I wanna get into Cooking and Herb magic, but I seem to have a natural affinity for the more spiritual side of it all. Especially when I was growing up.
I remember when I was growing up, I'd have 'future vision' type dreams (don't remember the term atm) where I'd see events well into the future. And it was always accurate, I'd get 'deja vu' moments out of nowhere and sometimes I'd even stop myself from saying the same things as I had in the original dream. But I couldn't control when these 'dreams' happened, nor could I determine how far it was into the future...though, now that I think back, the visions came true normally two whole years after I have them. But I wouldn't have any more until after they happened either.
I ended up losing that ability as I reached adulthood, and I feel kinda sad about it. I was never trained to learn how to keep that ability, plus my trauma got really bad and I closed myself off for a long time to those parts of me. And now I want them back, but I don't know how to start. The only ability I gained (after opening myself up again) was Lucid Dreaming, but even that felt like a 'natural' ability to me. Like I was meant to gain it, and every time I Lucid Dream it just happens. I gain abilities in those dreams, ones that I feel represent my personal progress and show how much stronger I've become. It's really cool when it happens, I feel like my dreams always mean something even if I don't remember most of them.
I'll probably look into how I can get my old prophetic dreams back, and help myself Lucid Dream more often. But it does feel like, when I want these things to happen, they just don't. And I'm scared that I'll lose these abilities for good one day. But I'll still try, because I want to open myself more to the spiritual side and explore that myself. And I hope that my protector will help guide me through it, along with my deity who I know is watching over me and probably laughing while they enjoy seeing me work through mt struggles.
#witchblr#witchcraft#witch blog#baby witch#wiccan#beginner witch#dreams#magick#pagan witch#I'll be revealing who is my deity in my next post ye#I just kinda feel like some may say I am a 'faker' for it when I reveal who they are#like my deity is a VERY common one used by fakers#but I am doing my best to be more open about these things now#anyone have any tips for increasing the power of Lucid Dreams and awakening Prophetic Dreams? it'd be a big help#I am not trying to delve into the realm of drugs for this so please no substance suggestions thank you#unless it's like incense or candles or crystals#but no shrooms or weed#my brother would KILL me if I did those

Beginner Crystal Set - Create your Own Crystal Set
Are you new to the world of crystals and looking to start your own beginner crystal set?
It can be overwhelming to choose the right crystals, especially with so many options out there. But don't worry, we've got you covered. In this article, we'll answer some common questions about starting a beginner crystal set and provide you with some guidance on selecting the right crystals.
Do I need to charge my crystals when I first get them?
It's always a good idea to cleanse and charge your crystals when you first get them. This is because crystals can absorb negative energy and vibrations from their surroundings. Cleansing and charging them will help remove any unwanted energy and restore their natural vibration.
There are many ways to cleanse and charge your crystals, such as smudging with sage, placing them under the moonlight, or using a singing bowl. Choose the method that resonates with you the most.
How do I choose my first crystal for a crystal set?
Choosing your first crystal can be a very personal experience. You can choose a crystal based on its properties or based on your intuition. If you're not sure where to start, some popular options for beginners include clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz, black tourmaline, and citrine.
Clear quartz is known as the master healer, amethyst is great for calming the mind and reducing stress, rose quartz is the stone of love and relationships, black tourmaline is great for protection against negative energy, and citrine is known for its abundance and manifestation properties.
What are the 7 basic crystals for a crystal set?
The 7 basic crystals for a crystal set are often associated with the 7 chakras in the body.
They include clear quartz for the crown chakra, amethyst for the third eye chakra, blue lace agate for the throat chakra, rose quartz for the heart chakra, citrine for the solar plexus chakra, carnelian for the sacral chakra, and red jasper for the root chakra.
These crystals are believed to help balance and align the chakras, promoting overall health and wellbeing.
What are the basic crystals for beginners?
As mentioned earlier, some popular options for beginner crystals include clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz, black tourmaline, and citrine. These crystals are widely available and easy to find, making them great for those who are new to the crystal world.
They also offer a variety of benefits, from promoting relaxation and calmness to protection against negative energy and attracting abundance.
What crystal is best for a new beginning?
If you're looking for a crystal to help you with a new beginning, try using clear quartz. This crystal is known as the master healer and is believed to help with clarity of mind, amplifying positive energy and intentions, and promoting spiritual growth. It's a great crystal to use when setting new goals or embarking on a new journey.
In conclusion, starting a beginner crystal set can be a fun and rewarding experience. Remember to cleanse and charge your crystals when you first get them, choose crystals that resonate with you and your intentions, and have fun exploring the world of crystals. Happy crystal hunting!

Recommended tips for research as a beginner witch/practioner:
Research as a beginner can at times feel stressful if you don't know credibilties or anything about the craft really. So, I'm going to share some tips I use in my practice and would recommend when researching witchcraft.
Research what interests you. If research begins to feel like a task instead of genuine interest or fun, there will be problems down the line with researching thoroughly. That isn't to say don't research things that bore you, it means that you should take what resonates with you and from there you can begin to build the framework for your personal craft.
Does the source align with your moral standing and personal beliefs? If the answer is no, time to find a new source. For example, if a source is fully against any harm towards another person and tries to push that narrative on the reader/viewer (or vice versa) and it's not something you personally align with, find another source. The most important example of this is many authors are bigots, terfs or cultural appropriaters. Remember to research the author and their practice before trusting what they have to say.
What may work for some people will not work for you. Do not feel inclined to do everything a certain way as said by a certain practioner. The point of witchcraft is to develop your own habits and outlooks. Crystals and astrology may work best for someone, but you may have an inclination towards herbs and palmistry for example. You do not need to practice every form of witchcraft out there. So circling back to the first point, pay mind to what sparks joy and what aligns with your abilities.
Take everything with a grain of salt. Learn to question what you learn. As witchcraft and spirituality have been practiced in many cultures for many years, things have evolved and been taken from one context to the next. Research various practices and rituals as well as the authors and cultures who promoted said practices
Use multiple sources. Blindly believing one post can be harmful, especially when concerning topics that can be a manner of physical safety (fire hazards, dressing candles, consumption and burning of herbs) or spiritual safety (spirit work, baneful work, trickster spirits). The more research the better, as it solidifies understanding too.
Do not rely solely on social media, but use it as a crutch to what you already know. Many content creators care more about views or aesthetics than educating. But many creators also DO care about what they're putting out there and have genuinely good tips and tricks for various practices. Just be wary.
Don't worry about aesthetics or perfection when you're just learning. Don't let pinterest photos of altars downplay your own craft and beauty. Right now, you're learning new topics and there's plenty of time later to find pretty altar tools or to neatly scribe in a leather journal. Don't let it distract you from research, and ultimately, the goal is to grow.
Have fun with it! There are so many research topics, and it can be as expansive or specific as you make it. Remember this isn't supposed to be stressful, it's supposed to be rewarding.
(Please add your own tips too if you'd like!)

a beginner’s guide to…
✨ altars ✨
here are some materials you can use for an altar, whether it is for your spellwork, a deity, or any other use! altars should reflect your personality, and be a space where you feel happy and safe :D
none of these materials are required, and everything is completely customizable to your beliefs! (just practice respect and safety obviously)
🕯️ basics 🕯️
an altar cloth is a piece of fabric that covers your altar. this could be a bandana, a small blanket, or even a piece of paper!
a glass plate is a mundane but VERY versatile altar piece. it can work as an offering dish, a tray to collect wax drippings, or just a little trinket holder
candles are an easy addition to any altar. you can use any type of candle, but my favorites are taper and prayer candles. scented candles are completely fine to use as well! choose candles based on color and scent
natural materials like crystals, flowers, plants, animal bones (responsibly sourced), etc. are an incredible addition to any altar! if you have a deity altar, learn about their associations and use this to guide your choice
paper and pen/pencil will be your best friend if you write petitions, draw sigils, etc. keep them near your altar for convenience
🌱 cleansing 🌱
many people believe an area should be “cleansed” before it is used as an altar or sacred space
methods of cleansing include incense, water cleansing, sage smudging, and more
incense cleansing is often done by wafting an incense stick or cone through a space and visualizing the smoke clearing out negative energy
sandalwood, lavender, and rosemary are common incense choices for cleansing
water cleansing is something i do a lot, it can be done by sprinkling water in an area or even washing/pouring water. regular tap water is perfectly fine, but you can also incorporate moon water, sun water, rainwater, etc.
smudging with sage involves burning a bundle of sage and, similar to incense cleansing, wafting the smoke through the area. sage smudging is traditional to indigenous tribes like the Lakota and Navajo. as a result, sage smudging (especially the use of white sage) is often considered cultural appropriation when done by non-indigenous people. i am not indigenous nor do i use sage, so i am not incredibly well versed on the subject but i thought i should include it. always do research and practice respect and sensitivity 💌
🌙 takeaways 🌙
finally, your altar is YOUR space. you can include or exclude anything you want; your space doesn’t need to be “aesthetic” or make sense to others
my first altar was a cardboard box with one candle and a handful of crystals. it wasn’t expensive or fancy, but it got me into my practice
through the years, my altar has grown and changed as i have
if you want to make an altar, start with what you have! you would be surprised how powerful your resources are 🩷

Amaranthine Magic System PART I: Remedial Magic For Beginners
Okay so… weird starting point, but do you remember these jerks from middle school math class? Function graphs! (I hated these things so much) The simplest possible function is a basic straight line, but by modifying the function, the graphed line can distort and take on all sorts of new shapes.
Magic is a lot like that.
The best way to describe spellcasting would be “filtering waves of energy”. Imagine a sine wave, oscillating up and down in a simple, predictable pattern. That is magical energy in its default state. It exists as background radiation throughout the whole world and permeates all living things… though some things conduct magic better or worse than others. (Magic has a lot in common with the electromagnetic spectrum in the real world)
What wizards do when they cast magic is that they amplify and tweak this ambient background energy in just the right way to contort it into a new form (lightning, a shockwave, fire, etc). The core nature of the energy doesn’t really change, but by exaggerating, filtering, and suppressing that oscillating wave in just the right amounts, in just the right places, in just the right order, it can be transformed into something very different than its base form. You could also think of it a bit like a musician playing a wind instrument, modulating the tone by covering and uncovering holes, or a puppetmaster pulling strings of a marionette—you need to deeply understand the physics at play and give each string just the right amount of slack and pull to make it do what you want.
The most common type of magical energy is magic in a neutral, passive state, just sort of existing passively as background radiation. Like the electromagnetic spectrum and gravity, it is deeply intertwined with how life evolved in this world, but also is so innate as to be largely unnoticeable. It is energy without a physical form. However, it can be harnessed and stored, given the right conduit. Under these circumstances it behaves similar to electricity.
Certain types of physical material are better at holding and manipulating magic than others. Substances that hold or amplify magic work because something about their physical molecular structure bends and filters the magic “waves” in a way that “traps” that energy inside of them, or amplifies the frequency of the waves. Nearly all crystalline structures and precious gems have some sort of magic-amplifying capability, with the best ones being highly prized and fetching crazy prices for large, pure specimens. Skilled Old Kingdom wizards could engineer such gemstones into Catalyst Stones, a special type of battery/amplifier that wizards could use to cast spells beyond their normal limits. Gemstones and crystals have been traditionally associated with wizards for this reason. However, they are far from the only material with a magical affinity—just one of the most easily recognizable.
…Additionally, other materials might have the opposite effect. Iron is well-known for its wizard-subduing properties. Simply being in a room with a large piece of iron makes a wizard feel ill and weakens their powers. Iron manacles and chains are commonly used to imprison criminal wizards. Not only do they aggressively drain magic from the air, matter, and flesh around them, they prevent the hand gestures that might allow a weakened mage to do any magical manipulation at all.
Magical energy is distributed throughout the world unevenly. Occasionally, the concentration of magic in an area is so high that the environment itself becomes effectively enchanted. A certain range of mountains might be rich in magical ores that have a subtle effect on how water in the region behaves, causing strangely shaped caves and ridges to form in the region. A woodland might be home to a large number of mushrooms that have adapted to make use of magic as a defense mechanism, causing the glen to disorient travelers who walk through it. Magic is infamous for distorting compass readings, too, forcing travelers to carry protective charms to keep their tools usable.
There are all sorts of weird subtle little things like that that can be caused by high concentrations of magic, and magically concentrated areas often have very unique biodiversity that evolved to make use of that specific environment. Discovering, exploring, studying, and documenting these regions is of great interest to many magical scholars (as well as the state interests sometimes backing them, of course).
Magic can do a lot of weird stuff in Amaranthine, but it isn’t as open-ended as most other types of fantasy magic. Things like turning oneself into a dragon are no more possible than they are in real life (unfortunately for some who may wish otherwise). You can get pretty creative with it, and there are surely techniques yet undiscovered that even Hyden doesn’t know about, but no matter how fancy your spellcasting gets, it’ll always just be “manipulating waves of energy”.
(Part II and Part III coming soon!)
#worldbuilding#fantasy worldbuilding#furry#anthro#furry art#verse: amaranthine#my ocs#hyden#others' ocs#ambroys#theo#other parts have already been written but I must draw for them... and this weekend must be dedicated to Wishbone... so it'll be a few days

Beginner Witch's Guide: The Basics
Hello friends and all my beginner witches! Welcome to my Beginner Witch's Guide where I will be sharing my wisdom in regards to the craft! This series of posts will be a set of guides to all sorts of aspects in the witchy world from crystals to tarot to baneful magic.
---
Beginner Materials:
(Keep in mind that none of these are necessary materials to practice witchcraft! These are just some ideas for what you can start practicing with!)
Crystals
Not only are crystals insanely beautiful, but they are also super useful for your practice. Some great beginner crystals include rose quartz, amethyst, citrine, and obsidian! Crystals can be somewhat expensive, but these tend to be ones you can find for fairly cheap!
Herbs
So many herbs can be used for the practice, and the best thing is that so many herbs can be easily purchased for relatively little from the local grocery store. Yes! The herbs in those little jars on the shelf can be used in magic no problem!
Salt
Salt has been used in many different cultures in many different forms of witchcraft as protection from negative energies and curses. Salt is a priceless thing in the witchy world!
Candles
Candles aren't necessary (technically nothing on this list is) but many spells will call for candles of various colors but the good thing is, candles can be found for super cheap in places like dollar stores or thift stores! And colors don't matter as much as people might tell you. White candles can used in place of others for pretty much any spell that calls for colored candles.
Tarot Deck (or deck of cards)
Tarot is a great way to start getting into divination and so getting a tarot deck can start you on that path of learning. They can be somewhat expensive, so a normal deck of cards can also be used! There are so many guides online of how to use a normal deck of cards for tarot readings and there are also great guides on how to start getting into tarot.
---
Thank you for taking time to read over this post! I absolutely love sharing my knowledge about the craft with people and would love to share more with anyone reading!
Feel free to send me messages or asks about the practice and I'll try my best to answer them, but I also just love talking to people in general haha!
Valete my friends!

20 day challenge for beginners to witchcraft
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
***this challenge may be valuable to experienced witches who wish to brush up on their basics
there are a few things to understand before we begin:
⛥you will need a journal to record your findings each day. this can be physical or online. i recommend physical because you remember things better when you are writing them down, but either is fine.
⛥it is of utmost importance that you understand the difference between good sources and bad sources, and are able to locate the original source where your information is coming from
⛥ this challenge involves lots of self-guided research as well as applied practice so be prepared to put the work in
⛥this challenge will not teach you everything there is to know as a beginner, but i think it will be a good jumping off point.
⛥don't worry about it if you miss a day or take multiple days to complete one of the prompts. you can take this challenge at your own pace, or do it for 20 days straight. however, i do not recommend that you attempt multiple days activities in a single day. take it slow so you can dedicate the time to fully learning, and aren't overwhelmed.
⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆
okay! let's begin :D
**remember to write everything down in your journal!!!! dont worry about "getting things right" just try your best!!!
Day 1: Find 3 different spells (online, in a book, anywhere). Try to figure out why the creator decided to use the materials they chose. Why are certain colors, tools, or herbs being used in the spell, and what do they represent/mean? What symbolism is being used in the method/steps of the spell to represent attaining the desired effect?
Day 2: Research meditation. What cultures practice forms of meditation? What are some different types, techniques, and purposes of meditation? Why do witches use meditation in their practice? Attempt a basic meditation technique based on your findings. Meditate daily if you can for the strongest benefits.
Day 3: Find a plant or crystal. Try to feel for its energy. Write down what you sense. Research methods if you’re having trouble sensing energy. Once you feel you have everything you’re going to be able to sense from it written down, try to research current spiritual uses + historical folklore/mythology surrounding the plant/crystal. Does it match up to what you sensed? Are historical connotations important to you or do you feel your personal intuitive sense of it/personal experiences are more important to you? Or do you value them equally?
Day 4: Research grounding and centering. How are they performed? What purpose are they used for? Why do people find them important for spellwork? Attempt one or both.
Day 5: Research closed practices, cultural appropriation, and spiritual bypassing. What harm can they cause? Why is it important to avoid these things?
Day 6: Research self-love spells. What are they for? What are some ways people do them? Attempt to perform a self love spell.
Day 7: Research shielding and warding. What do they do? Why are they important? Attempt one or both.
Day 8: Research shadow work. What is it? Why do people find it important for practicing witchcraft? Does it seem like something you would benefit from? Why or why not? Find a shadow work journaling prompt that calls to you and journal freely about it.
Day 9: Research the moon phases. What intentions does each phase assist with? What does each phase represent? Think about the symbolism of waxing and waning. attracting and repelling.
Day 10: Journal freely about the following questions: Why do you feel drawn to practice witchcraft? Have you always felt connection to nature or to the spirit world? What do you think your practice will do for you or help you with?
Day 11: Research item enchantment. What that is, why someone would want to enchant an object and methods of doing so. Attempt to enchant an object.
Day 12: Choose an herb and research its current spiritual uses and historical folklore surrounding it. Look into whether it has any scientifically verified medicinal properties. Be wary of pseudoscience. Find any other information about it that interests you. Try to draw it if you feel inclined to do so.
Day 13: Try a meditation technique or guided meditation you have never attempted before. Write about your experience and how you felt before, during, and after.
Day 14: Research altars. What are they? What are they used for? Do you think you want to use one? If so, what would you put on it? Why? If you have the means to, create an altar inside or outside your house. Be mindful that if your altar is outside, what you place on it may affect the environment. Be responsible.
Day 15: Journal freely about the following questions: Do you believe in human spirits? Do you believe in non-human spirits? Do you believe deities exist? Do you believe in house spirits, land spirits, spirits of bodies of water, and/or elemental spirits? Do you believe in demons? What experiences do you have that you feel impact your answers to any of the above questions?
Day 16: Research divination. What is it for? What are 5 different methods people use to divine? What are the origins of those methods?
Day 17: Choose your own path for today! Choose any topic relating to witchcraft that you're interested in and write down as much as you can about it! Dive as deep as you desire
Day 18: Research folklore about the seasons in your region. What do the seasons represent to you? What sort of symbolism do you attach to them?
Day 19: Choose an intention and perform a spell purely based on your intuition. Don't plan anything. Just do what feels right. Feel the vibe and act.
Day 20: You did it ! Reflect on what you learned, and what you wish to learn next. Which days were challenging for you? Which days were easy? Which day did you enjoy the most? Did your findings meet your expectations?

would azumarill be a good pet?
Azumarills would indeed make good pets! Just like their pre-evolution, these pokémon need access to water to play in but have exceptional ease-of-care otherwise, plus they’re super friendly!
They may be on the larger size for a house-pet, but certainly not to an unreasonable level. As I already mentioned, azumarills are big fans of water. Wild azumarills are happy wherever they can find freshwater, like rivers, ponds and lakes (Gold, Diamond). They spend most of their time in the water (Emerald), doing everything from hunting for food (Gold, Ruby), hiding from predators (Crystal), or even sunbathing (Sword). Thankfully, they don’t seem to be too picky and don’t necessarily need water to survive, so finding a way to get them some daily or almost-daily water time shouldn’t be beyond the means of too many owners. If you have a pool, private or public, or live near a natural body of fresh water, you should be covered. Now, if you live somewhere that gets really cold during part of the year, it might get a little trickier. Here’s the good news, though: many azumarills have the ability Thick Fat, which makes them resistant to cold temperatures: so long as the water doesn’t freeze solid they should be happy. I’d recommend reaching out to water-type owner communities in your area, they probably know the best places to get your azumarill some water time.
These pokémon get along well with humans and pokémon, giving them just the right temperance to be a good pet. Wild azumarills are known to pay specific attention to the safety of those around them: azumarills have been reported using their ability to make balloons out of air to rescue drowning pokémon (Sapphire) and often attach these balloons to playing marills around them just in case (Shield). If you’re a lifeguard, you might find just the right partner in an azumarill! These pokémon are highly energetic, so they would fit best in a high-energy home. Despite their goofy look, these pokémon are avid hunters, using their keen sense of hearing to track down prey in fast-moving rivers (Gold, Ruby). This means you will need to offer your azumarill with plenty of toys and high-energy activities to engage in to supplement this behavior in a home environment.
While not violent towards humans by nature, azumarills are no pushovers. Moves like Hydro Pump, Double-Edge, and Superpower pack quite a punch, and Bounce is always a move we look out for. As far as their score goes, though, the detriment of these moves are counterbalanced somewhat by moves like Aqua Ring, a self-healing move that may let you cut down on veterinary bills. While you should never underestimate how dangerous an angry azumarill could be, solid training and awareness of their move should negate much of the risk associated with adopting one. Just be careful that they don’t get too rough when you’re playing!
Overall, while there are a couple of drawbacks regarding this pokémon if you don’t have access to water for them to play in, these pokémon make a pretty good pet. I would recommend starting with a marill if possible, however, as their smaller size and weaker moves make them a better fit for most beginner water-type owners.

What is Deity Work?
Deity work is when you open your energies and attention to a Deity you wish to engage in a working relationship with. Typically this is a give and receive type of relationship in which you are giving the deity offerings and the deity is giving you advice or help in someway in return.
Working vs Worshipping.
When you are working with a deity, there is either a verbal or nonverbal agreement that you are both contributing to the encounter. Either bein through offerings and knowledge or offerings and company. Worshipping is very one sided, when you are simply leaving offerings for a deity or entity and expect nothing in return.
Patron and Matrons.
A patron or matron deity is one that you have an extremely deep connection with. They typically helped you find your path or have helped you through a tough time. They appreciate offerings and such, however they have also stuck with you through low or zero offering times. In my case, Apollo is my patron.
How Does One Start Deity Work?
You have to know three things before you even consider deity work. Protection, banishing, and vetting. Once you have these three things down, then you may continue on researching the deity you wish to reach out to.
Step One: Protection.
You need to know how to protect yourself before you even consider deity work. This can be done by casting a circle, cleansing your space, and creating sigils. There are many other ways, but I seem to find these the easiest.
To cast a circle, you need to know a little energy work. You should stand in a quiet space with little to no distractions and focus on pushing your energy out around you. This can be aided with salt in a circle around your practicing space. Focus on pushing your energy out to the salt ring and hold it. Please note that if you leave the circle, the circle breaks and will need to be redone. This may take a few tries to get down, and it can be very tiring, so please give yourself grace.
Next is cleansing. Cleansing should be one of the first things you learn when you start your practice. Cleansing can be broken into two sections: intention and tools. It is semitrue that you dont need anything to practice witchcraft, but it makes things a lot easier.
When I cleanse, I only think my enchantments, but you can say them outloud if that helps you focus. An easy way I cleanse my space is by sound cleansing and cleaning supplies. I typically will put on an upbeat song that makes me feel happy and refreshed and then go to town with disinfecting wipes, a broom, and a Swiffer. Simply cleaning your space is a part of cleansing that is greatly overlooked. Other ways you can cleanse are through charged crystals, singing, dancing, sigils, and wands. Please find whatever works for you best, as everyone is different.
Speaking of sigils, they are super easy to make and can be made with whatever you have lying around. There are so many ways to make one, but my favorite way is to write down what my intention is and then I organize the letters of the intention alphabetically and cross out the doubles. I do a doodle with the remaining letters and boom, sigil. But you can also free scribble or look up a unique way to do the sigil. There is no limit to chaos magic. Once youve made your sigil, you can place it in your work space to aid in protection.
In lieu of a sigil, you can set up wards. I recommend everyone has at least one ward in their house. It wards away negative energy and are typically pretty simple to make. They can be a spell jar with protection as the base, or a satchel. Some people use sigils as wards, however the sigils need to be refreshed more often.
Step Two: Banishing.
Once you've gotten protection down, you can move onto banishing. Banishing is draining and very not beginner friendly, but is a necessity if you wish to work with entities and deities. It would suck if you accidently invited a negative spirit into your space and now you can't get rid of it. Here are a few steps you can take to banish.
One: Ask.
You can simply ask the energy to leave. Most of the time, passing energies or lingering energies (please refer back to cleansing) can get suck in circles and that is who you are talking to. They don't really want anything to do with you so simply open the circle and let them leave! An easy way to avoid this is to be very specific with who or what you want to enter your space. If you invite all of the energies in by saying something along the lines of "I invite anyone to speak to me," then you are going to get a lot of strays.
Two: Cleanse again
Okay, so you asked the energy to leave and they either ignored you or refused. It's time to cleanse again. You need to be more forceful with this cleansing, but not rude. "Please leave," may or may not be enough to deter them, but "I demand you leave," may seem too rude if the energy isn't actively harming you. My personal favorite is either "You don't have to go home but you can't stay here," or "I was expecting someone else, but thank you for stopping by." Very firm but not rude.
Three: Demand
So now you've asked nicely and firmly. You know this energy is not welcome and has intention of harming you. Cast a new circle, deep cleanse AGAIN and demand the spirit leaves. Candles are a huge help and if it is too much for you to handle on your own, you can request the help of ancestors or another diety you work with. Now you're allowed to be forceful.
The last step is vetting.
What is vetting?
To vet a deity is to make sure that it is who you think it is. In the realm if worshipping and working with deities and entities, vetting is extremely important so you know exactly who or what you are devoting your time and energy too.
How does vetting help?
It helps by ensuring you are speaking to the right entity. There are many trickster spirits out there that want you to believe they are someone else so they can gain access to your attention and energy. It would suck if you thought you were giving energy to a god or goddess and it turns out to be a trickster.
How does one vet?
This is a broad question that doesn't have a singular answer. My personal favoritr way to vet takes a while, because I want to be 100% certain that this is who I want and need to be speaking to.
1. I do three separate forms of divination for every encounter. I ask personal questions about deities like their symbols and offerings. If im using pendulum, I ask a few questions and I repeat them using different words. If I get the wrong answer (say, I were to ask if Apollos bird was a swan and the energy replied yes) I know its not the energy or entity I thought it was. I do this for multiple sessions to be sure. I also use tarot cards and ask similar questions. My last form of divination i bibilomancy. I open to a random page and read the first paragraph that catches my eye. If it has any symbols if the deity, I am a little more sure of who I am speaking too.
2. I meditate on it and open myself up to thoughts. I go completely off of intuition here and if I continually keep thinking of symbols or the deity themselves, I know I am speaking to the diety. This is something that took me a long time to get good at, so please be gentle with yourself.
3. Last, I go off of pure intuition. Sometimes, I just feel a wave if relief when I start to vet, where all my anxieties are gone, which is another very good sign. But please remember that this also took me a long time to realize, so be gentle with yourself.
When you first start deity work, please keep these steps in mind. I really dont want to see anyone start to worship a trickster under the guise of a deity. Be safe out there!

Things what I have learnt as a baby witch
As a baby witch who has recently became more spiritually connected and grown as a pagan, i want to give out advice what I have learnt over the 2 years of doing witchcraft.
1) Don’t jump straight into the deep end
Never jump into the deep end by doing spell’s straight away, witchcraft isn’t some aesthetic cutesy thing, it can be serious, jumping into spells without having no idea what you are doing can be extremely dangerous.
Ideally, you want to ease yourself into it, by doing research, yes the word research can be daunting but it will help you in the long run. Research on what witchcraft is, get an overall understanding what its about, find out the pagans holidays, pagans new year, and so much more!
If you have no idea where to start I highly recommend buying this book - ‘Wicca For Beginners’ by Frank Bawdoe
The book explains the introduction of the basic Wiccan religion including Wiccan beliefs, a brief history of Wiccan Religion, and their traditions. How to practice Wiccan Religion, the benefits of witchcraft and so much more.
2) Never buy your own tarot deck
this is very important so please take note and to remember! Never! buy your own tarot card decks, in witchcraft, it is extremely bad luck for you to buy your own tarot decks. So always either get a family member or a friend to buy it for you.
3) Connect with your spirit guide and your tarot decks!
Importantly, I personally believe its very useful and helpful to connect with your spirit guide, the more you connect with them, the more you’ll know a lot about them and who they are in general.
You can do this through connecting with your tarot decks first and getting a special bond with them, you do this by
- Keeping the tarot decks on your desk when your studying, or reading a book
- Shuffling through the decks every day, you don’t even need to do a reading or to use them, just shuffle them. This way you’re putting your energy into the cards.
- Place the tarot decks under your bed when sleeping.
- Ask your spirit guide questions, like what are the tarot cards intentions, am i being protected. Things like that.
- Doing Tarot readings
Doing these things will help you bond with your decks and your spirits guides.
4) Never touch someone else’s Tarot decks
I’m highlighting this in red because this is a massive 101 rule in witchcraft is to never touch someone else’s deck unless they have gave you consent and permission. By breaking this rule, you are also disrespecting and breaking the person who owns the deck boundaries. Everyone’s tarot deck is very personal for them, its their personal business and item, they are spiritually connected and bounded with that deck. If you touch it, not only are you putting yourself through harm. But you’re also pissing off the person’s spirit guide and disrespecting them too. So don’t do it.
5) Things don’t have to be expensive!
When people think of witchcraft and hearing about crystals, herbs and books, they think “oh god this is going to be a lot of money” but in reality you don’t have to go out your way to buy really expensive things! I’m from the UK so i buy most of my books from a store called WHSmiths or Work entertainment. Work entertainment is best for spell jars which only cost £1 or a simple crystal shop which sells those £1.50 crystals!
6) Learn how to do protection spells before doing anything!
If you feel like you are ready to do spells but don’t know where to start or what to do, practice doing protection spells, protection spells is pretty self explanatory but it will protect you from any negative energy or spirit
7) What to do if you got a negative spirit/energy
You’ll know when you have a negative energy or spirit around you as your mood and your health will change, if you feel like your mental health has been a bit down for a while and you’re constantly feeling drained and tired. That means something is draining your energy.
So what do you do?
Do an egg cleanse spell! This will help you detect if someone has set a curse, negative spell or if theres negative energy around you.
By doing so, grab a glass cup and fill it up half way with water, adding salt to it is optional but i recommend doing it as salt is really good at protection. Grab an egg, place the egg on your head, with your hand you would want to move the egg counter clock wise around your body, start from the head, and move the egg down to your arms and legs, back round to the other side of your body. Do not let the egg leave the body.
After you’re done crack the egg into the cup and wait 5 minutes, if its all clear then you’re okay! but if the egg whites starts forming like spider cobwebs with bubbles between it, it means someone has set negative energy around you or a curse. If you see a triangle base shape in the cobwebs and a bubble on top. It means you have been hex with the evil eye. If theres also red or brown spots in the yolk it also means a banishing spell or a curse spell.
So you do a return sender, if you got any spices, add a f*ck ton of it in the cup, the more spices the better as that will f*ck whoever sent you the hex up. Grab the cup and pour everything down the toilet, look away while you flush the toilet. Once its flushed look at the bubbles, less the bubbles less of the negative energy. Sometimes you have to do this more than once.
8) Your spirit guides will show you the answers in different ways
One thing I’ve learnt is your spirit guide will show you the answers in different ways, if you want to know if you are protected, there will be signs, for example I personally believe if a a white feather falls in front of you or by you or if you even see a white feather it means you’re being protected by a angel/your spirit guide. So if you see a white feather it means you are protected by them, or if you see your spirit animal or if you know a dead relatives spirit animal and it starts to show up.
Sometimes the signs will be right in front of your face, example for me is: My spirit guide warned me about people being back stabbers and to watch out. After seeing that in a reading, i had my mother who im very spiritually connected with, call me up saying she had a dream about me being stabbed and she feels like it represented me being back stabbed and warned me who i hang out with.
Then my closest friend used my tarot deck which broke my boundaries, pissed off my spirit guide so she started to get headaches, neck pains, back pains and it got to the point she had to leave. When she tried approaching me the day after that, a white feather fell right by me, seconds later, she started to feel unwell and went back inside. I suddenly felt the sense of relief and happiness, and when i said to my self everything is okay, another white feather fell and it landed on my leg. That made me personally feel that it was my spirit guide confirming me and saying yes everything will be okay.
That’s all the advice i can think of at the moment but hopefully this has helps a lot of you small baby witches! just remember, if you ever feel burnt out or you start to do witchcraft but dont have the passion or get into it but still want to, thats okay! it takes time!
9) Know what you are doing when doing spells!! And do it when you are ready!
Another thing, i know i said previously doing research is key! but please know what you are doing when doing spells especially jar spells! Don’t do what I did, I thought I was ready to do spells, I tried doing a protection spell and I ended up summoning a trickster spirit who is still attached to me and can be a little pissbaby sometimes by moving my things around. But overall he also does protect me when need be so he can be good when he wants to be.
Also if you’d like to know what books I have, i have these! (the pictures below) these have helped me over the past 2 years with my journey so I highly recommend checking them out!
Good luck and i wish you all positive energy!

A witchcraft basics doc; update, resource call, interest check, and a possible second doc
Bet most of you didn't even know I was working on this >:D
Yes this is a huge post. It's a lot of things.
So, one of my first posts ever on this blog was me mentioning that a friend of mine had NO clue what they were signing up for when asking for the basics of witchcraft. The google doc I wrote took on a life of its own, and the post did as well when people started asking for it. I still plan to tag said people when I post it, assuming they haven't deactivated. The thing is, this doc had become a proper project, and it took a long time for me to have the motivation to work on it again. Now, though, it seems to me like a damn good way to reconnect to my craft after a rut! (which, by the way, is why I've been offline.)
So, my first post back is for a couple of reasons. For one, if you have any resources you'd think would be useful for beginner witches, feel free to shoot me an ask, DM, or comment/reblog on this post! I'll have a list of things I'm putting in the doc (taking recommendations there as well) at the bottom of this post.
The other thing is that I might end up making a second doc, one that's a little less "101" in vibe. It would have a MAJOR MAJOR UPG warning on it, first off, and I'm not sure whether or not I would be marking any UPG either since this would essentially be a second Grimoire/Book of Shadows for me that would be public to others for the sake of sharing information! I can't say I'd call it "advanced witchcraft" by any means, I'm not very fancy lol, but I don't want the basics doc to get too overwhelming. I do, however, want to scream about random witchcraft topics that interest me. So this is also a bit of an interest check for that, as well as the basics doc.
FINAL NOTE: I fully plan on posting this basics doc before it's done. Some sections will be unwritten or unfinished, because if I wait until I find it "finished" I'll never post it. It's going to be added onto whenever I can, but I feel as though getting it out is the best course of action.
A list of stuff in the doc that I'd take resources on (AKA everything planned in it) with * by anything that will be left unwritten/unfinished on purpose until I know more. I will take resources and recommendations on EVERYTHING though. This is in no particular order:
grounding and centering
VOCAB (intention, intuition, UPG/SPG/VPG, appropriation. probably others I'm forgetting.
candle, plant, crystals and safety* (as well as any other tools one might need safety tips for. This is left completely unwritten as I use very few tools of this type.)
deity work* (the whole debate surrounding when to start, as well as information about it. Will include smth about house rules/boundaries. My work is very casual, I'd love to see different POV's of this! This is by nature left unfinished because deity work is so unique to the witch.)
grimoire/book of shadows
tools of the craft* (common tools and how to use them consumerism in witchcraft, etc.)
cleansing
appropriation* (I don't know near enough about this, I just check what's in my own practice. I would like this to include a list of commonly appropriated closed practices, a definition of appropriation and why it shouldn't be done, open pantheons, and common open practices.)
spellwork*
meditation
where someone could go from here* (including sigils, tarot, crystals bc my friend likes rocks lol, maybe astrology but oh god I have nothing about that it makes my brain hurt just looking at an astrology chart /pos. I will probably make a list of stuff that I could add in this section.)
casual/daily/quick/low energy practices and witchcraft
paganism and witchcraft; overlap, what they are individually, why one might be for you rather than the other, etc.*
there'd be a credit section for anyone who wants to be credited for links/resources at the end! If you send me resources plz specify if you want to be included in that or not.
Things I might include in the second doc if I make it:
the craft and mental health and my experiences with it
things commonly touched on in the community (your deities don't hate you, cycles of inactivity and burnout, other things I'm forgetting rn)
deity-specific things, more specific topics of the craft, etc. yet another reminder that this would all include UPG, possibly unmarked, because it would basically be primarily used to give me motivation to research more.

witchcraft for beginners જ⁀➴ᡣ𐭩 where to start? i’ve been seeing many posts on tiktok recently of beginner witches talking about how confused they are on where they need to start so here is where i personally would start if i had to start again in my witchcraft journey : ۶ৎ cleansing. types of cleansing include: sound cleansing; normally done with a cleansing bell but can be done with any sound with the intentions of cleansing, smoke cleansing (i.e. incense or blown out candle smoke. REMEMBER: smudging with white sage or palo santo is only allowed to their native practices i.e indigenous practices and make sure your pets are not allergic to the incense you are burning), water cleansing; cold water is what i found is best for me but moon water is what is more commonly used (reminder: if you are cleansing a type of crystal with water, make sure it is water safe). ۶ৎ research on herbs / crystalsif you haven’t yet, doing research on crystals and herbs will be very helpful on spells / rituals / intentions. always start with the beginner friendly herbs / crystals such as: - cinnamon (protection, spirituality, abundance, success) - chammomile (protection, purification) - regular sage (cleansing) - rosemary (focus) - lavender (relaxation) - bay (manifestation) _________________________ - amethyst (protection, emotional balance, confidence) - rose quartz (self love, relationship love, appreciation) - selenite (cleansing, charging) - clear quartz (healing)- lapis lazuli (self expression) - carnelian (courage, motivation) ۶ৎ protection. protection magick should always be a witch’s top priority before doing any sort of spell or ritual. for your first protection spell, i’d recommend doing a spell jar: an enclosed jar that is filled with herbs or crystals that correspond with your intentions; here is a spell that i’ve personally came up with as a beginner. what you need:- jar + lid. - herbs that correspond with protection (these are the herbs that i chose: bay, cinnamon, caraway) - crystals that correspond with protection (these are the crystals i chose: amethyst, black obsidian) -black salt (black salt can be made with ash and salt mixed together).-white candle. always remember to cleanse first! the ingredients can be put in any order, after they have been put in; put the lid on the jar and seal it with white candle wax. ۶ৎ closed practices. As a witch, it is always good to know what practices you are not allowed to do unless you are part of that culture - unfortunately, wicca is widely known of cultural appropriation and stealing from closed practices so here are some examples of closed practices: - cleansing with white sage / palo santo / dreamcatchers (white sage / palo santo / dreamcatchers is only for the use of indigenous people) - hoodoo / voodoo - hinduism. - chakras. ۶ৎ divination. divination is a tool that is normally helpful with communication to the divine or the universe to help with spellwork or advice, here are some examples: - tarot cards. - pendulums. - astrology. - palm reading.
